Best Made Company at SnowGRADE 2012

Saturday, February 25th Best Made Company will be participating in SnowGRADE 2012 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This one day retail event showcases products made in the good ‘ol U, S of A. Nick Zdon from our Minnesota Outpost will be on hand conducting our fourth axe restoration workshop. He’ll be discussing the history, evolution, lore and maintenance of the American axe. A selection of Best Made products will also be available for purchase.

The event and workshop are free and do not require registration. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own axes, for a personal restoration consultation. Other vendor workshops include canvas waxing, traditional shoe fitting, and beer brewing!

So stop by, say ‘hi,’ purchase an axe or a patch or two, and hang out for some great axe talk. More info regarding the time of the workshop will be forthcoming.

If you were force-fed Dickens in middle school and hated him, it might be time to reconsider, Tomalin says. Novelist Jennifer Egan is a fan who came back to the books and unexpectedly found that Dickens felt modern.

“The way that Dickens structured his books has a form that we most readily recognize now from, say, the great TV series, like The Wire or The Sopranos,” says Egan. “There’s one central plot line, but then from that spin off all kinds of subplots. And so he would go off in all sorts of directions and create these amazing secondary characters who would go in and out of focus. But then there was also this sort of central spinal column of a plot that he would return to.”

Let the Strangling Begin

I’m going to start strangling two types of people with piano wire:

Those that spitefully exclaim, I don’t own a television
Those that say, they don’t make shows like they used to

To the first group, you don’t have to own a television to enjoy television.

To the second group, I agree completely. They’re making great shows now. Here are four things I’m looking forward too in the upcoming week while working full time, rehearsing a show and carrying on meaningful relationships.¹

Downton Abbey Season 2 airs January 8 on PBS. You can also catchup by zipping through season 1 on Netflix.
Justified Season 3 kicks off on FX on January 17.
30 Rock returns to NBC on January 12.
Modern Family is currently mid-season, returning tomorrow night on ABC.

This eliminates an unmentioned third group of people that claim they don’t have time to watch tv. They need to be strangled as well, but I can only do so much strangling. Li’l help, please. ↩
